Some photographs are commissioned. Others begin with curiosity.
Some photographs are created to answer a client's brief.
Others begin with a question that simply refuses to disappear.
Hidden Vienna belongs to the second kind.
No client commissioned it. No campaign required it. No deadline defined it.
It began with a simple thought.
Can Vienna become a character instead of a backdrop?
That question led to an editorial photographed with model Anna Bronner in the historic streets of Vienna.
Months later, Hidden Vienna was independently selected for publication by VIONNE Magazine and appears in Issue 16 as a six-page editorial feature, alongside photographers and visual artists from around the world.
Publication was never the objective. It became the consequence of creating something authentic.

Why editorial work matters
Commercial photography solves problems.
Editorial photography explores ideas.
It creates space for experimentation, curiosity and visual language without the constraints of campaigns, trends or algorithms.
The photographs produced during these personal projects often influence every commissioned assignment that follows.
Every Executive Story. Every Wedding Story. Every Beyond Story.
Editorial work is therefore not separate from professional photography. It is where visual identity evolves.

Hidden Vienna
Rather than photographing Vienna's famous landmarks, Hidden Vienna focused on the spaces between them.
Quiet streets. Historic architecture. Soft reflected light. Restrained styling.
The city was never treated as a background. It became another protagonist within the story.
The result is an editorial built on subtlety rather than spectacle. A visual conversation between architecture, fashion and presence.

Published in VIONNE Magazine — Issue 16
VIONNE Magazine, an independent international fashion and photography magazine, selected Hidden Vienna for publication in Issue 16 and presents the complete editorial across six printed pages (18–23).
Seeing personal work translated into a carefully designed magazine layout adds another dimension to the project.
Photography becomes sequencing. Rhythm. Typography. Storytelling beyond individual images.
The publication represents another step in SCHOPHO's ongoing commitment to creating intentional, timeless visual stories.

Personal work creates professional growth
Some people separate editorial photography from commercial photography.
I never have.
Personal work keeps curiosity alive. It challenges creative routines. It develops visual consistency.
Most importantly, it reminds us why we began creating photographs in the first place.
Every editorial becomes part of the visual language that later finds its way into work for clients.
That is why personal projects are not distractions. They are an essential part of becoming a better photographer.

Every story continues
Publications are often described as milestones. I prefer to think of them as chapters.
A project does not become meaningful because it appears in print. It becomes meaningful because it began with curiosity.
The publication simply allows that story to reach new audiences.
Because every story starts long before the first photograph. Sometimes, it continues long after the magazine has been printed.
