A summer evening in the heart of Vienna.

At Julius Meinl am Graben, people from retail and industry come together for the first summer lounge of “Wie tickt der Einkauf®”.

Host Christian Reitterer and proM² create a setting for encounters, conversations and new connections.

No grand staging. Conversations, reunions, new encounters. A glass of wine, a thought, a laugh in between.

These are precisely the moments that interest me photographically.

Not necessarily when everyone is looking at the camera.

    But in between.

A glance. A gesture. Two people in the middle of a conversation. A group that, for a moment, forgets there is a camera somewhere nearby.

For me, photography in these situations is primarily about paying attention without changing the moment. Close enough to recognise it. And far enough away to let it actually happen.

As the evening progresses, the light changes too. A bright summer gathering slowly becomes a Vienna evening – warmer, denser, quieter.

And individual moments become a story.

A selection of 15 photographs from the evening was subsequently published by CASH Handelsmagazin as part of its editorial coverage of the first “Wie tickt der Einkauf®” summer lounge.
